Rebecca Ackroyd (b. 1987, Cheltenham, UK) lives and works in Berlin.
Ackroyd’s practice toys with the discipline of sculpture, dissecting its processes to their bare bones in a language of making that questions the relationships between drawing, abstraction, and figuration. Ackroyd’s work examines human bodies, subconscious memory, and dimensions of sexuality in space – most often materialized in complex installations and body-like sculptures. Ackroyd stages clashes between narrative fragments, bodily presence, displacement, and cultural memory.
In 2024, Ackroyd presented a solo exhibition as a Collateral Event of the 60th Venice Biennale at Fondaco Marcello, Venice, presented by Kestner Gesellschaft. The previous year, the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon devoted her first monographic exhibition in France. Further solo exhibitions include Galleri Opdahl, Stavanger (2026, 2020); Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich (2025); Haus Schulz, Berlin (2024); and Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover (2023). Ackroyd has participated in group exhibitions, biennials, and institutional projects at Stavanger Secession, Stavanger (2026); Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon (2023); CAPC musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux (2023); Aïshti Foundation, Beirut (2022); Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg (2021); the 15th Lyon Biennale (2019), among others.
