Deborah Schamoni devotes its Kabinett presentation to Bracha L. Ettinger for an intimate experience of a select group of Ettinger’s key works. Rooted in an unflinching search for beauty, meaning, and humanity, her densely layered yet ethereal surfaces channel personal memories and historic atrocities through mythical feminine figures such as Medusa or Eurydice. The compact paintings function like portals, drawing the viewer into luminous, unstable spaces in which traces of bodies, histories, and psychic encounters emerge through accumulative layers of marks, color, and light. The installation follows Ettinger’s recent solo exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, Düsseldorf’s K21, and her project at Hotel Metropole during the opening week of the Venice Biennial.
